Michael Mikhail is the Founder and CEO of Stratton Equities, the Nation’s Leading Hard Money and NON-QM Lender for National Real Estate Investors, with the largest variety of mortgage loans and programs under one roof. Born in the US and then raised in Lebanon and New Jersey, Mikhail has experienced many cultures in his lifetime. He’s experienced the highs with the lows and has prevailed as a successful entrepreneur.
Throughout his 20+ years in the mortgage industry, Mikhail has used the hardships he’s gone through in his life as fuel for success. This was a lesson he instilled within himself when he was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD at an early age. Left untreated, his dyslexia caused him many problems and he was told he would never succeed.
One of his biggest struggles growing up was his schooling and education. As a child with dyslexia, basic skills such as learning and reading, did not come easily to him. This left Mikhail behind his peers and led to low self-esteem, behavior problems, anxiety, and withdrawal from the world around him.
However, with the fortitude to overcome a diagnosis that society considers a “setback,” Mikhail knew that the only way to change his situation was to reframe how he looked at his dyslexia. He turned the problems that he had due to his disorder from negative to positive.
For instance, some of the positive results of dyslexia are that since basic reading skills are difficult to learn, dyslexics need to develop other skills to function in life. Mikhail developed a wonderful imagination and had to think outside of the box. These became the building blocks of his innovation as an entrepreneur. Seeing the world differently has been a secret to his success.
A number of world-class musicians, artists, actors, and entrepreneurs happen to be dyslexic. From a young age, Mikhail used visual techniques to expand his imagination and activate new parts of the brain.
Some well-known dyslexics include Leonardo Da Vinci, Tom Cruise, Robin Williams, Keira Knightly, and entrepreneur Richard Branson. A thing that Mikhail and his fellow dyslexics have in common is a strong visual memory. Since the reading part of the brain doesn’t develop like an average person, the visual cortex and the parahippocampal region are connected much stronger in dyslexic children. Therefore, children with dyslexia have a better memory of pictures than words.
Dyslexics are great at solving puzzles; they have brilliant visual-spatial reasoning and are great at connecting with others.
Where one might see failure, Mikhail sees success and has gone through his life with that reality. Everything successful for him came from an experience of failure. Michael was even homeless in a foreign country which taught him a lot about life.
A serial entrepreneur from his early 20s, with a foresight for business opportunities, Mikhail had a slew of small businesses prior to launching Stratton Equities. One of his most prolific ventures was a car wash connected to a gym he was affiliated with while living in Florida.
He started a car wash business with his uncle, who eventually stole the company from him.
This left him flat-broke at age 22 and he was hungry to create his next opportunity. From there he was introduced to the mortgage industry. He got a job selling mortgages and learned the business inside and out. He used his interpersonal skills to connect with clients and solved their problems, developed strong relationships, and took them forward.
After traveling to 19 countries in 5 years, Michael knew two things; he wanted to start his own business and launch it in the United States. He knew that moving back to the states was the best place he could start something small and grow it into something infinite.
In 2017, Michael noticed how the mortgage industry had transformed after the regulations presented from 2008-2012, and knew it was time to set out something on his own, thus creating Stratton Equities.
