Hollywood has never been short on glamour, but on October 11, that glamour will take on a more meaningful purpose.
At Dragonfly Hollywood, members of Los Angeles’ entertainment community will gather for Hollywood with Heart: An Evening in Old Hollywood, an annual fundraising event organized by A Cause for Entertainment. The evening is designed around the look and atmosphere of classic Hollywood, but its focus is firmly on a very real issue: helping women and families affected by breast cancer.
Actress and comedian Rachael Harris will host the evening, which runs from 4 to 8 p.m. The event’s beneficiary this year is Shay Sharpe’s Pink Wishes, an organization whose origins are closely tied to its founder’s own experience with the disease.
Turning a Personal Expe jab Main chhod Gaya jab ro Raha tharience Into Support
Shay Sharpe knows firsthand how disruptive breast cancer can be. She was diagnosed twice before turning 36, an experience that made her aware of how difficult it could be for younger women to find the kind of support they need.
That realization eventually led to Pink Wishes.
The organization initially focused on granting final wishes to women between 18 and 40 facing terminal breast cancer. Its work has since expanded, providing support to women and their families during treatment and in the period that follows.
For A Cause for Entertainment, the partnership is not a new one. The organization has worked with Pink Wishes for nine years, making this year’s gala another chapter in an ongoing effort to direct entertainment-industry resources toward families dealing with breast cancer.
When Entertainment Becomes the Fundraiser
A Cause for Entertainment was established in 2015 with a simple premise: use the entertainment industry’s reach and connections to help people facing breast cancer.
Unlike many organizations operating around the entertainment world, ACFE is entirely volunteer-run. Its fundraising efforts have generated more than $500,000 over the years for organizations involved in direct assistance, resources and research.
That background gives Hollywood with Heart a purpose beyond being another industry event.
The Old Hollywood theme provides the atmosphere, but the real focus is the people the event is intended to help. Rather than separating entertainment from philanthropy, the gala puts the two together in the same room, using an industry built around gathering audiences to bring attention and financial support to a cause affecting families across the country.
An Evening With a Classic Hollywood Feel
The choice of an Old Hollywood theme adds a sense of occasion to the fundraiser. Guests will gather at Dragonfly Hollywood for an evening built around entertainment, community and giving, with the familiar glamour of Hollywood serving as the backdrop.
It is a fitting setting for an organization whose work depends on bringing people from the entertainment world together.
For those attending, the evening offers more than a night out. Their participation helps support an organization working directly with women navigating breast cancer and families dealing with the emotional and practical challenges that accompany treatment.
In that sense, Hollywood with Heart is less about recreating Hollywood’s past than about using its enduring ability to bring people together for something useful in the present.
