Space Nation and Kira to Premiere Completed AI-Generated Pilots at MIPCOM 2026

Ex Machina Studios and K5 International bring two filmmaker-led science-fiction series to Cannes, marking a new milestone in the presentation of fully produced, AI-generated television for international buyers.

The future of AI-generated entertainment will take a significant step onto the international market stage at MIPCOM 2026, where Ex Machina Studios and worldwide sales partner K5 International will present completed pilot episodes of Space Nation and Kira. The screenings, scheduled for October 12 and 13 at Cinéma Les Arcades in Cannes, will introduce buyers to finished episodes rather than concept reels or early previews.

The two projects represent different approaches to science-fiction storytelling. Space Nation is an eight-part drama about elite pilots confronting an alien threat, while Kira is a six-part science-fiction fantasy set on a living planet shaped by shifting landscapes and rival factions.

According to the companies, the screenings are the first time fully produced, AI-generated series episodes have been presented to buyers at a major international market.

Space Nation Returns to Cannes With a Completed Pilot

First introduced to buyers at MIPCOM in 2025, Space Nation returns a year later with its 45-minute pilot completed and Globoplay attached as co-producer. The Brazilian streaming service, operated by Globo, acquired Brazilian rights in May 2026, making the project a Globoplay Original.

Set in the near future, the series follows a new generation of elite pilots tasked with defending humanity as Earth faces an overwhelming alien threat. Their mission pushes them into relentless combat, testing their courage, loyalty and trust in one another.

The eight-episode series was created by Ex Machina Studios co-founder and CEO Marco Weber alongside filmmaker Martin Weisz, who directs all eight episodes. Vanessa Coifman wrote the series, which was produced in Los Angeles in active alignment with Hollywood guilds.

The completed pilot gives international buyers an opportunity to assess the series as a finished episode ahead of any wider release plans announced by the companies.

Kira Introduces a New Science-Fiction Fantasy World

Kira, Ex Machina Studios’ second series, will make its first-ever public-market appearance at MIPCOM. Announced in August 2026, the French production is a six-part epic science-fiction drama, with each episode running 35 minutes.

The story takes place in the far future on Djena, a living planet whose landscape is constantly changing. Its young protagonist, Kira, sets out to find her missing father while navigating competing factions and pursuing a larger destiny: restoring balance to her world.

The series was created and directed by Lyon-born filmmaking duo Damien Steck and Julien Petit, whose previous work includes Cherry, which played at Tribeca. Steck, Petit and Moritz Weber share writing credits, with Marco Weber serving as executive producer.

With the pilot now complete, K5 International is opening pre-sales for the series. Its MIPCOM screening marks the first opportunity for buyers to see the project in finished form.

A Filmmaker-Led Approach to Generative AI

For Ex Machina Studios and K5 International, the projects are part of a broader effort to bring generative AI into series and feature-film production while retaining a conventional creative framework built around scripts, directors and distinct fictional worlds.

“We return to Cannes with a completed pilot, Globoplay on board as co-producer and a second series, Kira, alongside it,” said Daniel Baur, CEO of K5 International. He described both productions as filmmaker-driven series created with generative AI and presented to buyers as finished episodes.

The companies’ stated distinction is between completed narrative productions and AI-generated concept material. Rather than presenting short promotional reels, the MIPCOM screenings will allow buyers to watch full pilots and evaluate the projects’ storytelling and visual worlds.

The approach also places the projects within a broader commercial strategy: pairing AI-supported production with international sales, co-production arrangements and territorial rights deals.

K5 International Builds an AI-Generated Slate

The two series form part of a wider slate represented by K5 International, which is also handling Ex Machina Studios’ theatrical projects Paradise Lost, directed by Roger Avary, and Heaven, directed by Alex Proyas. Both feature films were launched with Mayfair Media Group and are scheduled for release in 2027.

K5 International, based in Cologne, has operated in the international film and television market for approximately 20 years. Its representation of the two series and two feature films positions the company at the center of Ex Machina Studios’ international sales strategy for AI-generated productions.

Ex Machina Studios is based in Los Angeles and led by co-founder and CEO Marco Weber, whose producing credits include Igby Goes Down. The company is developing a slate of series and feature films with generative AI integrated into its production pipeline.

MIPCOM 2026 Screening Details

The completed pilots of Kira and Space Nation will screen at Cinéma Les Arcades, Salle 2, at 77 Rue Félix Faure in Cannes, a short walk from the Palais des Festivals.

Both pilots will run in a continuous loop in the following order: Kira, Space Nation, then Kira. The screenings are scheduled for Monday, October 12, and Tuesday, October 13, during MIPCOM, which runs from October 12–15, 2026.

For international buyers, the screenings offer an early look at two distinct science-fiction properties developed through generative AI: one centered on humanity’s fight for survival, the other on a young heroine’s journey across an unfamiliar world.

As AI becomes an increasingly visible part of screen production, the completed pilots will provide a practical test of how these productions can be positioned, evaluated and sold within the established international television marketplace.
