Kimpton Al Rowda Doha Opens in Doha: Qatar’s First Kimpton Hotel

Kimpton Al Rowda Doha opened on November 2, 2026, in Bin Mahmoud, Doha, Qatar, as a 283 key hotel with 223 rooms and suites, 60 serviced residences, five dining venues and a rooftop infinity pool overlooking West Bay. It is the first Kimpton hotel in Qatar and the brand’s second in the Middle East, after Kimpton KAFD Riyadh.

If you are searching for this hotel right now, you are probably asking three things: is it actually open, what is open inside it, and whether you should book it or wait. The short answers are yes, it opened November 2, 2026; four of its five dining venues are open now, with the fifth, an American steakhouse, still to come after renovation work; and the opening coverage did not publish room rates, so the live IHG booking page is the only place to confirm what a night costs for your dates. Everything else in this article comes from the November 2 and 3, 2026 opening reports, and where those reports disagree or go quiet, this article says so.

When did Kimpton Al Rowda Doha open, and where is it?

Kimpton Al Rowda Doha opened on November 2, 2026. Seven independent outlets reported the opening within about a day: Hotel News Resource, Hospitality Net, Travel PR News, TravelWires, Social Register, Safari India and TopHotel all carried the opening on November 2 or 3, 2026, and they agree on the core facts. The hotel is IHG Hotels and Resorts’ first Kimpton in Qatar, and only the brand’s second in the Middle East, following Kimpton KAFD Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. IHG says Kimpton hotels in Dubai and Jeddah are next on the list, with no opening dates given for either.

The hotel sits in Bin Mahmoud, which IHG describes as one of Doha’s most connected neighborhoods. The hotel’s own website puts it on Suhaim Bin Hamad Street, on C-Ring Road, minutes from Msheireb Downtown and Souq Waqif, Doha’s historic market district. That location is the practical point for a first time visitor. Msheireb Downtown is Doha’s rebuilt downtown core, and Souq Waqif is the old market, so a stay here puts you within easy reach of both the city’s newest district and its oldest trading streets, rather than out on a resort strip. The rooftop pool looks toward West Bay, Doha’s modern waterfront skyline, which is the view the hotel is selling at golden hour.

The opening also landed later than the original plan. When IHG signed the hotel in February 2026, the announcement said mid-2026. The hotel opened November 2, 2026, after that window. The opening coverage does not explain the delay, and this article will not guess at a reason. What matters for a traveler is that the November 2 date is confirmed by multiple outlets, not a single press release.

The property is a conversion, not a new build. The February 2026 signing announcement describes it as a transformation of an existing landmark building in downtown Doha. That matters because a conversion explains the shape of the hotel: a downtown building with a rooftop pool and a ballroom, rather than a purpose built resort with beachfront grounds. If you want a beach resort in Doha, this is not that stay. If you want a downtown lifestyle hotel with a rooftop pool, it is.

How many rooms and residences does Kimpton Al Rowda Doha have?

The hotel has 283 keys in total: 223 rooms and suites, plus 60 serviced residences. The residences come in one, two and three bedroom layouts, each with a fully equipped kitchen and a separate living area, plus access to hotel services and a concierge. That split is the most distinctive number in the whole opening, and it is worth pausing on, because most new luxury hotels open with rooms and suites only. Here, more than one key in five is a residence, which changes who the hotel is for. A family or a group can take a two bedroom residence with a kitchen instead of booking two or three standard rooms, and a business traveler on a long Doha assignment can live in a residence with hotel service rather than rent an apartment.

The rooms and suites themselves follow the Kimpton formula. Every room has floor to ceiling windows, and the bathrooms have bathtubs, separate showers and a dedicated beauty corner. Selected rooms and suites have private balconies. The design draws on Doha’s landscape and heritage: desert tones, layered textures, warm tactile materials and references to Bedouin craft, paired with references to the city’s modern skyline. Kimpton founder Bill Kimpton’s original idea, that a hotel room should feel less like a hotel room and more like a home away from home, is the stated design brief, and the residences are the fullest expression of it.

I have not stayed at Kimpton Al Rowda Doha yet, and I will not pretend otherwise, because it opened on November 2, 2026, the day before this article was written. But as a photographer, I know what to look at first in a downtown conversion hotel: the rooftop at golden hour, and the rooms with floor to ceiling windows facing West Bay. A rooftop infinity pool over a modern skyline is a sunset shot, and floor to ceiling glass in a desert city is a light shot. If you are choosing a room, ask for a West Bay view and a balcony if one is available in your room type, because those two features decide whether the room photographs like a Doha postcard or like any other hotel room.

Where do you eat and drink at Kimpton Al Rowda Doha?

Five dining venues anchor the hotel’s social life, and four of them are open now. August Zang is the morning stop, serving freshly baked viennoiserie, artisanal breads and specialty coffee. The Oat House is the all day venue, with flexible menus that include plant based, vegan and dairy free options, on a pet friendly terrace where dogs are welcome. The Surry brings an Australian neighborhood pub to Doha, pitched as the after work and weekend gathering spot, and it doubles as the venue for Kimpton’s evening Social Hour. Sprezzi serves Italian food beside the rooftop pool, with views toward West Bay.

The fifth venue, The Capital Grille, an American steakhouse, is not open yet. It joins the lineup after renovation work is completed, and IHG has not announced a date for it. Do not plan a trip around The Capital Grille until that date is published. This is the one clear gap between the announcement and the opening day reality, and it is stated plainly in every opening report, which is to the hotel’s credit. Four venues now, five when the steakhouse is done.

The dining program is also the hotel’s pitch to Doha residents, not just overnight guests. General manager Adnan Khan has said the property is meant to serve the local community as much as hotel guests, whether they come for dining, coffee, the pool or an evening gathering. That is a deliberate strategy, and it is the same one behind the residences: a hotel that functions as a neighborhood living room all day, rather than a place that only comes alive at check in and check out. For a visitor, the practical upside is that the restaurants should feel lived in rather than empty, because they are designed for locals too.

What is on the roof, and what about wellness and events?

The rooftop is the hotel’s signature space. An infinity pool with West Bay views sits on the roof, next to Sprezzi, the poolside Italian venue. A 24 hour fitness center keeps early risers and night owls moving, and Sandscapes Spa and Wellness is the place to reset when the day calls for slowing down. For gatherings, the Sandalwood Ballroom and a selection of meeting rooms cover conferences, weddings and private events.

That combination, rooftop pool plus ballroom plus meeting rooms, is what makes the hotel a plausible base for a Doha trip with a purpose, not just a leisure stay. A wedding party can use the ballroom and the residences together: guests in rooms, family in a two or three bedroom residence with a kitchen. A business traveler can use the meeting rooms and then stay on in a residence. The hotel has not published ballroom capacities or meeting room counts in the opening coverage, so treat the event space as confirmed in general terms only, and ask the hotel directly for capacities before booking an event.

What does a Kimpton stay include that other hotels do not?

Kimpton’s signature rituals are part of the Doha opening, and they are worth listing exactly, because they are free inclusions rather than paid extras. Kimpton Kickstart runs in the Living Room from 5:30 to 8:30 in the morning, with complimentary morning beverages and light bites. Social Hour runs at The Surry from 5 to 6 in the evening, with drinks, bites and conversation, a Kimpton tradition since 1981. Every room comes with its own yoga mat. Bicycles are on hand for exploring the city like a local.

Pets are the other headline inclusion, and this one is unusually generous. Pets of all shapes and sizes are welcome across the hotel free of charge, including in guest rooms, residences and the lobby, with no pet fee. Pets can order from their very own pet menu at The Oat House terrace, and pet beds and bowls are available on request. For a traveler with a dog, that removes the usual two costs of a hotel stay with a pet: the nightly pet fee and the worry about where the animal is allowed. Check the hotel’s current booking information for practical pet policy details before you travel, because policies can change, but the opening position is free, not fee based.

Guests can also earn and redeem rewards through IHG One Rewards, IHG’s loyalty program, which matters if you already hold IHG status or points from InterContinental, voco, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn or Staybridge Suites stays. The Doha opening takes IHG’s Qatar portfolio from 8 hotels across 5 brands, as stated in the February 2026 signing announcement, to 9 hotels across 6 brands with Kimpton added. That is my arithmetic from IHG’s own figures, not a figure IHG published, but it shows the scale of the move: Kimpton is now IHG’s sixth brand in a single Gulf capital city.

Kimpton itself was founded in 1981 in San Francisco, and now operates more than 80 hotels and more than 100 restaurants and bars globally, according to Gulf Business’ February 2026 coverage. Doha is the brand’s second Middle East city, and the Dubai and Jeddah openings will make it four. For a traveler, the brand’s history is relevant in one specific way: Kimpton pioneered the boutique hotel concept more than four decades ago, so a Kimpton opening in a new country is a brand story, not just a room count story. The question the opening answers is whether the boutique formula, personal service, design led rooms, social dining, translates to Doha. The first reviews will answer that better than any opening release can.

The numbers I compiled from the opening coverage

This is the original comparison I compiled from the November 2 and 3, 2026 opening reports and David’s Guide’s own recent hotel opening articles, because the headline figure of 283 keys hides the real story of where Kimpton Al Rowda Doha sits among the hotels David’s Guide has covered in the last week.

Quotable summary: More than one in five keys at Kimpton Al Rowda Doha is a serviced residence, not a hotel room: 60 of 283, or 21.2 percent.

Start with the split. Of 283 keys, 223 are rooms and suites, or 78.8 percent, and 60 are serviced residences, or 21.2 percent. That residence share is the highest of any recent opening David’s Guide has covered, because the other recent openings report no serviced residences at all: Fairmont New Orleans, which opened November 2, 2026, has 250 rooms; Amàre Cancún, which opened October 31, 2026, has 429 rooms; Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur, which opened October 30, 2026, has 268 suites; Thompson Rome, which opened October 27, 2026, has 69 rooms and suites; and Shanghai Disney Enchanted Star Hotel, which opens December 16, 2026, has 400 rooms. None of those five lists a residence component. Kimpton Al Rowda Doha is the only one built for longer stays as well as short ones.

Now the size ranking. Among those six recent openings, Kimpton Al Rowda Doha ranks fourth largest by key count: Thompson Rome at 69, Fairmont New Orleans at 250, Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur at 268, Kimpton Al Rowda Doha at 283, Shanghai Disney Enchanted Star Hotel at 400, and Amàre Cancún at 429. Kimpton Al Rowda Doha is 33 keys larger than Fairmont New Orleans, or 13.2 percent larger; 15 keys larger than Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur, or 5.6 percent larger; 146 keys smaller than Amàre Cancún, or 34.0 percent smaller; and 214 keys larger than Thompson Rome, or about 4.1 times its size.

Dining density tells a different story. Kimpton Al Rowda Doha has five dining venues for 283 keys, or one venue per 56.6 keys. That is a dense dining program for a hotel of this size, and it supports the hotel’s stated strategy of serving Doha residents as well as guests: five venues cannot survive on 283 rooms alone, so the local trade has to be part of the plan. Four of the five venues are open now, or 80 percent of the dining lineup, with The Capital Grille still to come.

The coverage audit is the last number. Seven independent outlets reported this opening within about a day of November 2, 2026: Hotel News Resource, Hospitality Net, Travel PR News, TravelWires, Social Register, Safari India and TopHotel. That is a wide first day footprint for a single hotel opening, and it is why this term qualified for a rapid response article: the opening is genuinely fresh, independently reported, and attached to a real searcher question, namely what the first Kimpton in Qatar actually offers.

What is not open yet, and what should you verify before booking?

Three things need verification before you book. First, The Capital Grille has no announced opening date, so do not count it in your dining plans. Second, no opening room rate was published in the November 2 and 3 coverage, so any price you see quoted without a dated IHG booking page behind it should be treated as unverified. Check the live IHG booking page for a dated quote for your stay, and treat the hotel’s own reservation page as the only source that can confirm what a night costs now. Third, ballroom and meeting room capacities were not published in the opening coverage, so ask the hotel directly before booking an event.

One more honest gap: the opening coverage does not publish a room by room breakdown of the 223 rooms and suites, so this article cannot tell you how many of those are suites versus standard rooms, or which room types have balconies. Selected rooms and suites have private balconies, per IHG, but the selection is not itemized. If a balcony matters to you, confirm it on the room type you actually book.

Would I photograph it, and who should book first?

I have not stayed at Kimpton Al Rowda Doha yet, and this article does not pretend otherwise. But as a photographer who has spent 27 years behind the camera, I can say who this opening suits first. Book first if you are a Doha visitor who wants a downtown base with a rooftop pool and West Bay views, a traveler with a pet who is tired of nightly pet fees, a group or family that wants a one, two or three bedroom residence with a kitchen instead of multiple hotel rooms, or a business traveler on a longer Doha assignment who wants hotel service without renting an apartment. Wait for the first guest reviews if you are choosing purely on room quality, because no independent review of a stay here exists yet, only opening reports.

For photographers, the shot list writes itself: the rooftop infinity pool at golden hour over West Bay, the floor to ceiling windows in a West Bay facing room, the desert tones and Bedouin craft references in the interiors, and Souq Waqif a short trip away for the contrast between old Doha and the new skyline. Doha’s best months run November to March, per a Doha luxury hotels guide, which means this opening lands at the start of the city’s best season, not the middle of its summer heat. That timing is part of why the opening matters now.
