Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children (LuskinOIC) in Alliance with UCLA Health Honored Mayor Karen Bass, Linda Ronstadt

Los Angeles, CA – On Saturday, June 10, 2023, the Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children (LuskinOIC) held its prestigious Stand for Kids gala at Universal Studios Hollywood and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The event, which attracted more than 600 guests, aimed to raise funds to support LuskinOIC’s mission of advancing health equity for every child in Los Angeles and beyond. The gala also recognized prominent individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to the field of pediatric orthopaedics.

The evening began with guests entering an enchanted forest experience in Sound Stage 15 at Universal Studios Hollywood. They were treated to a captivating performance by award-winning singer and American Idol finalist, Pia Toscano. As a surprise highlight, Toscano joined forces with LuskinOIC Patient Ambassador and rising star Scarlett Kate Fergusson for an unforgettable duet, leaving the audience in awe.

The “sparkles and sneakers” red-carpet gala was hosted by the talented comedian and actress, Caroline Rhea. Rhea’s wit and charm kept the atmosphere lively throughout the night. The event featured the presentation of prestigious awards to notable individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to the field.

LuskinOIC honored Linda Ronstadt, a multi-Grammy-award winning and Emmy-award winning humanitarian and artist, with the Voice for the Children award. Ronstadt’s advocacy for children’s causes and her remarkable career in the music industry have made a lasting impact. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass received the Champion for Children award in recognition of her unwavering commitment to improving the lives of young people in the city. Mary Lou Belli, a two-time Emmy-winning director, was honored with the Luminary award for her remarkable contributions to the industry. Additionally, The Perry Initiative was presented with the Power of Partnership award for its exceptional work in creating opportunities for women in engineering and medicine.

The gala also featured a silent and live auction, expertly conducted by auctioneer Zan Aufderheide, which offered guests the chance to bid on exclusive items and experiences. The auction further contributed to the funds raised for LuskinOIC’s vital programs.

Following the awards and auction, guests and honorees were treated to a private post-gala soiree in the enchanting Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The magical atmosphere was filled with music, desserts, thrilling rides, and a captivating light show, providing a perfect ending to an extraordinary night.

The Stand for Kids Gala served as a celebration of women pushing the frontiers of healthcare and highlighted LuskinOIC’s commitment to advancing health equity for all children. With over 93% of their patients being underinsured, LuskinOIC relies on the generous support of donors and dedicated sponsors to continue their vital work. The funds raised during the gala will go towards providing quality care to children in need, as well as supporting medical education and scientific research in orthopaedics.

LuskinOIC, in alliance with UCLA Health, stands as the largest provider of pediatric orthopaedic care on the West Coast. With locations in downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Westwood, and even extending their pro-bono treatment to patients in cities such as Calexico and Mexicali, LuskinOIC remains dedicated to improving the lives of children worldwide.

The Stand for Kids Gala was a testament to the tireless efforts of the LuskinOIC community, including donors, community partners, patient ambassadors, physicians, and professionals. Together, they strive for excellence and compassion in their pursuit of advancing pediatric orthopaedic care.
