Dr. Grewal‘s passion for animals began when he was young, and he always knew he would work in veterinary care. He graduated at the top of his class and excelled in his clinical rotations during his university tenures. He started his career as a kennel assistant before following in his father’s footsteps as a veterinarian and joining the family business. After obtaining expertise at various veterinary clinics, he started his own.

As his clients fondly call him, Dr. G has a tremendous passion for animal welfare and works hard to advocate for it. Yet, despite his busy schedule juggling his private practice and volunteer work with Skid Row, Dr. G has managed to stay sharp, fit, and healthy, all while taking care of your beloved furbabies.

Dr. G shares his tips and tricks with David’s Guide to keeping a healthy work-life balance. Read more in the Q&A below:

1. What projects are you currently working on with the charity organizations you volunteer for?

I am part of the underdog community project in Skid Row/DTLA, where they provide monthly services to all the homeless population’s pets. Services primarily are physical exam/check-ups, vaccinations, medicine, food, and flea/tick prevention, just to name a few. I also donate some of my inventory during my visits. In addition, I routinely work with rescue organizations and give them discounted rates when they visit my practice.

2.   As one of Hollywood’s premiere vets, I know it can be very difficult and stressful to care for many fur-patients. How has it been like balancing work life with your personal life?

Keeping a balance is difficult, but I focus on my mental health. I often incentivize my team to ensure they are focusing on their duties and meeting my expectations to keep my practice in tip-top shape.

3. You take care of the lives of many animals that come into your office. Is there anything you do to ensure you keep yourself well taken care of? What do you do to keep up with stress?

When I am not working, I exercise, eat healthy food, and travel outside LA to clear my mind. I have been to over 30 countries and try to get out when possible. My significant other also helps me with my mental and emotional health.

4. Do you have a daily routine you stick to preparing yourself on office days?

Before starting my day, I wake up early, exercise, quickly pack my meal-prepped food made by my significant other, and prepare for work. I take an hour’s lunch break to come home, rest, and finish the evening. I often go out to dinner in the evening or sometimes order in depending on how I feel. Sometimes I go to networking events/ articles /PR work etc., to further get my practice’s name out there.

5. As a veterinarian busy with volunteer work and private practice, how do you keep yourself motivated?

My biggest motivation is knowing that all my clients and their beloved pet is satisfied, healthy, and happy. Being able to take care of not only the pets but their furparents is already an accomplishment. Knowing that the efforts I invested in my practice help me better the lives of the animals that come into my office and being trusted by the furparents who bring their pets to me for care is ultimately priceless.

6. Lastly, do you have any projects fur parents should be on the lookout for?

I am expanding my practice into the adjacent space and will offer more services such as physical rehab. I am constantly in the process of searching for vets (tough market), so I can meet the demands of the practice allowing me to have a break and keep a balance.
