Vehicle breakdowns tend to happen at the worst times. It’s almost as if your car knows you’re in a rush and that you’re already going to be late, so it decides to pile on another problem for you to deal with.
And when it does, you’re likely to panic about how much this will delay your day even further. But when that panic sets in, there are a few things it can prevent you taking care of. We’re here to remind you about them; check out our list below.
Focus on Safety
You’re worried you’re not going to make it in time. But right now, your car isn’t moving, you’re on the road, and you could be in a very dangerous situation. That’s what you need to focus on for the time being.
Try to redirect any frantic thoughts toward the immediate problem. You need to make sure you’re safe, as a priority. Get off of the road, and make sure you make yourself as visible as possible to any drivers who might pass by.
If you can, try to get your car off of the road too – or as close to the side of the road as possible. Then put your hazard lights on.
Let People Know
The moment you know your car probably isn’t in road condition, call anyone who’s waiting on you and let them know what’s happened.
You don’t need to know what’s wrong with your vehicle, or to be able to give any specific details at this point. You just need to let them know what’s going on ASAP, as you don’t want them to be left wondering!
If you break down while you’re on the way to the airport, and you’re never going to get there before your flight takes off, you may be able to claim the cost of your tickets back from your travel insurance.
They may also cover the cost of a taxi, if you had to use one to get there instead. It’s always worth double checking, but you need the presence of mind to do so in the moment!
Call for Mobile Repair
It doesn’t matter where you are in the world; car repair and vehicle breakdown services are never too far away.
Whether you’re down some remote country lane or you’re in the middle of the city, there’ll be someone nearby who can come and save the day.
All you have to do is know your options ahead of time, as you can’t be sure you’re going to have enough signal to look up a nearby mobile tire repair while you’re stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Most people can request a callout from their insurance, or be put through to an insurance network mechanic. However, you can also find local breakdown services that are more likely to get to you within 30 minutes to an hour.
If you’re already late and your car’s stopped working, try to focus on the problem at hand.
