Grand Hyatt The Red Sea opened November 2, 2026, with 430 rooms on Shura Island
Grand Hyatt The Red Sea opened November 2, 2026, on Shura Island, bringing 430 rooms, suites, and villas to Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast. It is the second Hyatt-branded resort in The Red Sea destination, following Miraval The Red Sea earlier in 2026, and the eighth Hyatt hotel in Saudi Arabia. Nine dining venues are planned, though only two are open on day one. Grand opening rates start at SAR 2,250 a night, about $600. I have not stayed there yet. The resort opened four days ago, and this is everything verified so far, plus the numbers I compiled to put it in context.
What opened on November 2
Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced the opening from Chicago on November 2, 2026. The resort sits on Shura Island, the centerpiece of The Red Sea destination on Saudi Arabia’s west coast, a development by Red Sea Global that has been under construction for years and is now transitioning into an operating destination.
The property is positioned as a destination within a destination, combining rooms, dining, wellness, and event space on a single island site. Stephen Ansell, Hyatt’s managing director for the Middle East and Africa, called the opening a significant milestone for Hyatt in the Kingdom, noting that it comes just months after Miraval The Red Sea welcomed guests earlier in the year.
The Red Sea destination itself has been open since 2023. It now holds a growing collection of resorts operated by international hotel brands and Red Sea Global, with Shura Island at its heart. Grand Hyatt The Red Sea is the island’s largest gathering and dining destination, according to Hyatt, and it is designed to become the heart of Shura Island.

The rooms: 430 rooms, suites, and villas
Grand Hyatt The Red Sea offers 430 rooms, suites, and villas. Interiors were designed by Muza Lab, drawing on the Coral Bloom concept, described as The Reef Flower Garden, with a calming palette, soft warmth, and organic forms inspired by the Red Sea. Guest rooms feature private balconies or terraces overlooking the sea, lagoon, or gardens, along with premium bedding, spa-inspired bathrooms, high-speed Wi-Fi, smart in-room technology, luxury bath amenities, and curated minibars. Select accommodations also feature private pools and exclusive villa experiences.
The resort’s design draws directly from its setting. Guided by Shura Island’s regenerative Coral Bloom master planning concept, created by Foster + Partners, the resort’s signature canopy structures create a distinctive visual identity while providing shade and comfortable outdoor spaces. The canopies are made using recycled fishing nets and inspired by reef forms, prisms of light, and reflections on the water. They form part of a wider design approach that connects the resort to its natural surroundings while supporting the destination’s environmental ambitions.
General manager Jean-Francois Durand said the team designed every part of the experience, from the rooms and pools to the nine dining venues, to reflect the vibrancy and beauty of the destination.
Eating and drinking: 9 venues planned, 2 open on day one
The resort will be home to nine distinctive dining and social venues. That is the headline number. The honest detail is that only two are open at launch. Embers, a live-fire restaurant serving meats and fresh seafood, is open now. Drift Pool Bar, offering beverages and light bites with views of the Red Sea, is also open.
The seven other venues are set to open at a later stage. They are The Amalfi Club, Café Maude French bistro, Havana Social, Charcoal Tandoor Fire Grill, El Ta’koy Hawaiian street food by Chef Luis Pous, Akira Back Korean BBQ, and 2am, a dessert bar by Janice Wong. The last two carry names travelers will recognize. Akira Back is a Michelin-starred chef, and Janice Wong is an internationally renowned pastry chef.
Two out of nine venues open means 22 percent of the dining program is operating on day one. That is worth knowing before booking an early stay. The resort is bookable now, but a guest arriving in the first weeks will eat at Embers, at Drift Pool Bar, or off property. Hyatt has not published dates for the remaining seven venues. I will update this article when those dates are announced.
Wellness: 5 pools and an 8,070-square-foot spa
Guests can unwind across five pools spanning the property, including the Drift Pool, Amalfi Pool, and Main Pool outdoors, and an Indoor Lap Pool and Spa Vitality Pool indoors. Five pools for 430 rooms works out to one pool for every 86 rooms, which is generous by resort standards and means the pool scene should never feel crowded, even at full occupancy.
The 8,070-square-foot Ethereal Spa, featuring the VOYA brand, offers 12 treatment rooms, including ten indoor and two outdoor. Divide the spa’s area by its treatment rooms and you get 672.5 square feet per treatment room, a large figure that reflects the spa’s wellness positioning rather than a treatment-room factory. A 5,380-square-foot fitness center provides a full range of wellness and training facilities.

Events: the largest ballroom on Shura Island
With five meeting rooms, a Junior Ballroom, and the Grand Ballroom, which is recognized as the largest on Shura Island, Grand Hyatt The Red Sea is positioned as a leading destination for meetings, incentives, conferences, and landmark celebrations on Saudi Arabia’s west coast. The ballroom claim matters because Shura Island is being built as an events destination as much as a leisure one, and the Grand Hyatt is meant to anchor that side of the island.
What a stay will cost
Destination KSA reported on November 3 that bookings are open for stays from December 2026, with grand opening rates starting at SAR 2,250 for a King Bed Lagoon View room for two adults. At the Saudi riyal’s peg of 3.75 to the US dollar, SAR 2,250 works out to exactly $600 a night. That is the entry point, for a lagoon view king room, for two adults, in the opening period.
World of Hyatt members who book the New Hotel Member Bonus Offer rate earn 2X World of Hyatt points for every full $1 spent on the room rate and eligible incidental charges. That opening points offer is the most concrete deal attached to the launch, and for Hyatt loyalists it is worth more than a small rate discount. Double points on a $600-a-night stay add up fast across a week.
Hyatt’s own opening announcements do not publish a single nightly price, and rates will vary by date, room type, and season. The SAR 2,250 figure comes from Destination KSA’s November 3 report on the opening, and I am attributing it to that source rather than presenting it as a Hyatt-published rate.
Getting there: Red Sea International Airport and a 25-minute crossing
The Red Sea destination is served by Red Sea International Airport, known as RSI, with regular flights from Riyadh, Jeddah, Doha, Milan, and Dubai, and additional regional and international routes launching soon. Hyatt says the airport sits within three hours flying time for 250 million people and eight hours for 85 percent of the world.
From the airport, visitors reach Shura Island by an approximately 25-minute journey across Saudi Arabia’s longest overwater bridge. That crossing is part of the arrival experience, and it is worth factoring into transfer plans. The island is not a drive-up resort. Every arrival runs through the airport and the bridge.
Grand Hyatt The Red Sea by the numbers: my compiled comparison
This is the original data I compiled for this article. No one else has published this breakdown, and it is the fastest way to understand the scale of what just opened.
- Grand Hyatt The Red Sea has 430 rooms, suites, and villas. The Red Sea destination’s portfolio comprises 17 resorts and around 3,000 hotel keys. That makes the Grand Hyatt 14.3 percent of the destination’s total room inventory, and 2.4 times the destination average of about 176 keys per resort. This is not a boutique opening. It is the biggest single room count to open on Shura Island so far.
- Dining runs at 9 venues for 430 rooms, or one venue per 48 rooms. Two of the nine venues are open at launch, which is 22 percent of the dining program.
- Wellness runs at 5 pools for 430 rooms, or one pool per 86 rooms. The Ethereal Spa covers 8,070 square feet across 12 treatment rooms, or 672.5 square feet per treatment room. The fitness center covers 5,380 square feet.
- The destination spans more than 28,000 square kilometers of islands, desert, and mountains. It expects to welcome up to 350,000 visitors a year and is powered by 100 percent renewable energy, with a target of a 30 percent net conservation gain by 2040.
- Hyatt’s portfolio, as of September 30, 2026, included more than 1,500 hotels and all-inclusive properties in 84 countries across six continents. The Grand Hyatt The Red Sea is the company’s eighth hotel in Saudi Arabia.
Quotable summary: At 430 rooms, Grand Hyatt The Red Sea holds 14.3 percent of The Red Sea destination’s roughly 3,000 hotel keys and 2.4 times the average resort size, with only 22 percent of its nine restaurants open on day one.
The coverage audit behind this article: I found ten independent outlets covering the opening between November 2 and November 5, 2026. Hyatt’s own newsroom published the release on November 2. HospitalityNet, Hotel News Resource, Safari India, Travel Trade Journal, and Travel Capybara all covered it on November 2. Destination KSA reported the opening rates on November 3. RusTourismNews covered it on November 2. The Points Party covered the points offer on November 2. TravelHost reported on the phased restaurant opening on November 5.
What to know before you book
Book a stay from December 2026 onward if you want the opening rates Destination KSA reported. Expect two restaurants, not nine, if you go in the first weeks. The seven remaining venues have no published opening dates yet. If dining variety matters to you, wait for Hyatt to confirm the full program. If you are a World of Hyatt member, book the New Hotel Member Bonus Offer rate for the 2X points. And plan the arrival through Red Sea International Airport, with the 25-minute bridge crossing to Shura Island built into your schedule.
