LADOT and CicLAvia Unveil “Ready for Reseda”: A Celebration of Community and Mobility

Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) in collaboration with CicLAvia proudly presents “Ready for Reseda: Explore the Corridor,” a transformative event set to redefine the streets of Reseda for a day of exploration, community engagement, and celebration. Scheduled for Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 1 to 5 p.m., this initiative marks a significant milestone in the city’s efforts to enhance transportation safety and accessibility along one of its key corridors.

In recent years, Reseda Boulevard has undergone extensive redevelopment under the City of Los Angeles‘ Complete Streets Program. Aimed at fostering a safer, greener, and more accessible environment for all modes of transportation, these improvements have reshaped the boulevard into a model of urban living that prioritizes the well-being of its residents and visitors.

Riding, Rolling, Relaxing Along Reseda

“Ready for Reseda: Explore the Corridor” is more than just an event; it’s a showcase of the new Reseda Boulevard, featuring guided group bike rides led by BikeLA. Participants will have the unique opportunity to experience the newly installed protected bike lanes and other safety enhancements that stretch from Saticoy Street in the North to Reseda Park and Victory Blvd in the South. Despite the focus on biking, Reseda Boulevard will remain open to vehicles, highlighting the corridor’s new multi-modal functionality.

This inclusive event welcomes cyclists, roller skaters, skateboarders, scooter riders, stroller pushers, walkers, and runners to come together and explore the area safely. Two vibrant Hubs located at the north end of Reseda Park and the intersection of Reseda and Saticoy will serve as epicenters of activity, offering music, street games, bike rentals, free pedicab rides, food trucks, giveaways, art workshops, and a variety of activities designed to engage community members of all ages and abilities.

A Collaborative Achievement

The transformation of Reseda Boulevard is a testament to the power of community partnership and civic engagement. Over the course of three years, LADOT, alongside residents, local businesses, and city partners, has been dedicated to delivering a project that exemplifies the city’s commitment to creating safer, more accessible streets for everyone.

“LADOT’s mission to lead transportation planning and operations in Los Angeles has been brilliantly exemplified through the Ready for Reseda project,” said LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo. “This event celebrates not just the physical improvements to the boulevard, but also the spirit of collaboration and community that made it possible.”

Councilmembers from Los Angeles Districts 3, 4, and 12 have also expressed their support and excitement for the project, highlighting its significance in enhancing safety measures, reducing speeding, and promoting alternative modes of transportation within the Valley communities.

CicLAvia’s Continued Commitment to Los Angeles

CicLAvia, a nonprofit organization inspired by Bogotá’s weekly ciclovía, has been a pivotal force in reimagining Los Angeles‘ streets since 2010. By temporarily closing streets to car traffic and opening them up for public enjoyment, CicLAvia has facilitated over 298 miles of open streets events, promoting environmental health, equitable transportation, and community well-being.

“Partnering with LADOT for ‘Ready for Reseda’ allows us to celebrate the strides we’ve made towards a safer, more joyful Los Angeles,” remarked CicLAvia Executive Director Romel Pascual. “This event, and our upcoming 2024 CicLAvia events, are steps toward realizing a city that truly serves all its residents, encouraging cleaner air, healthier lifestyles, and stronger community bonds.”

Through initiatives like these, the city continues to stride confidently towards a future where streets are not merely conduits for cars, but vibrant, shared spaces that enrich the lives of all who traverse them.
