Sleeping 16 Feet Underwater: Inside the World’s Most Expensive Underwater Hotel Suite

YouTuber Walk With Me Tim has stayed in some outrageous places, but in August 2025 he checked into what he calls the most expensive hotel room of his life: an underwater suite in the Maldives. The video, “I Stayed in the World’s Most Expensive Underwater Hotel!”, has since pulled in around 3.7 million views, and thanks to the full transcript, we know exactly what one night set him back. The Muraka at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is not a hotel room so much as a private aquarium you get to sleep in. Here are the biggest takeaways from his full tour.

1. He paid $15,044 for one night, and calls it his most expensive stay ever

Tim states the number on camera: $15,044 for a single night. He visited in the rainy season, when he says prices are a little more affordable, and adds that the same night goes for $25,000 or more in high season. Even at the discount, he calls it the most expensive hotel stay he has ever paid for, and probably ever will. For context, that one night would cover a month in a penthouse at many of the best luxury hotels in Los Angeles several times over. Up to nine guests can share the residence, which softens the per person math, but only slightly.

2. You descend to the bedroom by your own private lift, 16 feet under the sea

The Muraka is a two-storey, three-bedroom private residence whose headline feature sits more than 16 feet below sea level. Getting down there is an event in itself: Tim rides his own private lift, with a spiral staircase as the scenic alternative. Below sits the master king bedroom, a bathroom with floor-to-ceiling glass, and a cinema style living area, all staring into the Indian Ocean. The bedroom ceiling is a 180-degree curved acrylic dome, and his reaction is the review: it is like being in an IMAX movie theater. There is even an escape hatch, just in case.

3. Sharks, barracudas, and a toilet with a coral reef view

The marine life is not a screensaver. Sharks and barracudas cruise past the dome, and after seeing them up close, Tim decides against his planned swim in the ocean. Fish occasionally startle and send the whole school scattering, and a turtle drifts by at breakfast. The strangest detail is the bathroom: the toilet looks straight out onto the coral reef, glass on all sides. As Tim puts it, you get to do your business while checking out the coral reef.

4. The butler is on call 24/7, and the minibar has rules

The residence comes with a butler available around the clock for any request, plus a private chef on call and a private speedboat. Upstairs, the overwater level has living and dining areas, two more bedrooms, a gym, an infinity pool, and sunrise and sunset decks. It is the same playbook as the great luxury resort escapes in Asia, except the headline amenity is the ocean itself, below you. One quirk Tim flags: soft drinks and snacks in the minibar are complimentary, and he gets a bottle of rose champagne, but other alcohol is a chargeable extra, which stings a little at this price point.

5. Dinner is served underwater, and it cost him over $420

The resort’s undersea restaurant was supposed to be closed that day, but the staff opened it just for him, barefoot dress code included. The set menu runs from tuna tartare through a smoked duck salad with grilled fig, pine nuts and beetroot puree, then lobster and steak, finishing with a white chocolate coconut mousse topped with a wafer coral. With taxes, dinner came to over $420. His verdict on the meal: amazing.

6. It was a $15 million project, built in Singapore, then sunk in the Maldives

The engineering is a story of its own. The residence was designed by New Zealand firm MJ Murphy Ltd, the same team behind Ithaa, the Conrad resort’s famous undersea restaurant. The 600-tonne structure was built in Singapore, transported to the Maldives, and lowered into place by crane ship onto concrete pylons that hold it steady through high tide and rough waves, a USD 15 million project in all. Getting there is half the adventure: Tim’s journey ends with a 45-minute seaplane ride to the islands. It remains the world’s first underwater hotel residence, a genuine one of one.

7. His verdict: one of a kind, and unforgettable

Tim calls it true bucket list luxury and asks the only question that matters: is it really worth the price tag? His answer is an honest yes for anyone who can swing it, calling it definitely one of a kind and something he will never forget, from the shower with the fish to the bed so comfortable he slept through the sunrise glow. Watching 3.7 million people agree with their clicks suggests he is not the only one who wants to sleep beneath the sea at least once.

Watch the full tour above, and if underwater suites have you dreaming about luxury travel done differently, this is the video to start with. Just do not check the price twice.
