“COMMON GROUND” WINS ENVIRONMENTAL MEDIA ASSOCIATION’S EMA AWARD

On January 28, 2024, in Los Angeles, the feature documentary “COMMON GROUND” by Big Picture Ranch achieved notable success. Directed and produced by the acclaimed Joshua Tickell and Rebecca Harrell Tickell, known for their work on “Fuel” (Oscar® shortlist) and “The Big Fix” (Official Selection at Cannes Film Festival), the film received the Environmental Media Association Award for Best Documentary Film.

The award was presented by Jane Fonda at an awards gala in Los Angeles, dedicated to recognizing outstanding environmental storytelling. The film’s narrator, Laura Dern, was also celebrated with the EMA Ongoing Commitment Award for her advocacy, at the event hosted by Lance Bass, Cheri Oteri, and Melissa Peterman, which included a special performance by Sheryl Crow.

“COMMON GROUND” has been recognized as one of the top 10 highest-grossing independent limited release documentaries of 2023. Earlier, it received the 2024 Palm Springs International Film Festival’s Best Documentary Feature Audience Award and has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including the 2023 Tribeca Festival’s Human/Nature Award, where it premiered.

Released in select theaters on September 29, 2023, by Big Picture Ranch and Area 23A, the film has been screened on over 200 screens nationwide. Due to popular demand, it continues to be shown in over 25 markets through the first quarter of 2024.

Narrated by an ensemble including Laura Dern, Jason Momoa, Rosario Dawson, Ian Somerhalder, Woody Harrelson, and Donald Glover, “COMMON GROUND” is directed and produced by Joshua Tickell and Rebecca Harrell Tickell. The documentary delves into the complex web of issues surrounding the modern food system, revealing problematic practices and offering hopeful stories of diverse farmers employing regenerative agriculture methods.

As a sequel to “Kiss the Ground,” which had a global impact and influenced the USDA to invest in soil health, “COMMON GROUND” continues to advocate for transformative changes in farming practices.
