Los Angeles is a city best seen from above. The skyline, the hills, the ocean haze on the horizon, it all comes together once you are high enough to take it in at once. So we did what any data obsessed publication would do: we ranked the city’s rooftop bars by elevation, highest first, using only verifiable floor numbers from official hotel and venue sources. No guesses, no multipliers, no marketing fluff counted as fact.
The headline result is not close. Spire 73 sits on the 73rd floor of the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, and the hotel itself bills it as the tallest open-air bar in the Western Hemisphere. The next highest verified rooftop bar in the city is 39 floors below it. After that, the ranking gets tight and genuinely debatable, which is exactly why you should read to the end and tell us what we missed.
How we ranked them
Every venue below is a bar, lounge, or restaurant with open-air rooftop seating, currently operating as of October 2026. Rankings are by floor number, verified against official hotel pages, venue websites, and building records. Where sources conflicted, we said so. Venues whose floor could not be verified from a real source were left out of the ranking entirely, no matter how famous. Heights in feet are given only where the building’s owner publishes them.
The ranking
1. Spire 73 — 73rd floor
InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, Financial District

The undisputed champion. Perched atop the Wilshire Grand Center, the tallest building west of Chicago at 1,100 feet, Spire 73 offers 360-degree views stretching from Hollywood to the beaches. Fire pits, a whiskey-heavy bar program, and the legitimate claim of tallest open-air bar in the Western Hemisphere. Open Monday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings plus Friday and Saturday nights.
2. La Lo La Rooftop — 34th floor
AC Hotel Downtown Los Angeles, South Park
The surprise runner-up. This Spanish-style tapas bar sits 34 stories up in the Moxy/AC dual tower, with a garden-like terrace and views reaching the Hollywood Hills. It opened with the hotel and has quietly become one of downtown’s best high-altitude perches.
3. Takami Sushi & Robata — 21st floor
811 Wilshire Blvd, Financial District
The venue calls itself the only eatery in downtown LA with rooftop dining 21 floors above the city, and the outdoor patio backs it up. Come for 360-degree city views, stay for the sushi and robata grill, then head to the Elevate Lounge upstairs.
4. Perch — 16th floor rooftop lounge
Pershing Square Building, Historic Core

A downtown institution. You arrive at the 15th-floor French bistro, then move up to the 16th-floor rooftop lounge with its fireplaces, fire pits, and sweeping views over Pershing Square. Few rooftops in the city have this kind of staying power.
5. Cara Cara — 15th floor
Downtown LA Proper Hotel, South Park

The Proper Hotel’s scenic rooftop restaurant and bar pairs 360-degree downtown views with a pool deck and fire pits. It is the rare rooftop that works as well for a long lunch as it does for a late cocktail.
6. Broken Shaker — rooftop terrace, 14 stories up
Freehand Los Angeles, Historic Core
Set 14 stories above the street in the 1924 Commercial Exchange Building, this tropical cocktail bar brings a freewheeling energy to the Historic Core. The rooftop pool is for hotel guests, but the bar is open to everyone.
7. The Rooftop by JG — 12th floor
Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills

Twelve stories above Wilshire Boulevard, Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s garden-style rooftop serves panoramic Beverly Hills and Hollywood views with a menu to match. This is the polished, grown-up end of the rooftop spectrum.
8. The Rooftop at The Sun Rose — 11th floor
The Sun Rose West Hollywood, Sunset Strip
Eleven floors above the Sunset Strip, with views stretching to downtown LA and a rooftop pool. Note for returning visitors: Wolfgang Puck’s Merois is gone, replaced by the new Oleander and Yuhi concepts that launched in August 2026.
9. Bar Lis — 10th floor
Thompson Hollywood, Hollywood
A French Riviera-style lounge with Hollywood Hills, downtown, and Hollywood sign views. One caveat: sources conflict on whether Bar Lis sits on the 10th or 11th floor. We ranked it on the 10th-floor figure from a 2026 rooftop guide, but if the 11th-floor listing proves correct, it would outrank the Sun Rose. Either way, the view is spectacular.
10. The Highlight Room — 10th floor
Dream Hollywood, Hollywood
The entire top floor of the Dream Hollywood, with Hollywood Hills and sign views off a pool deck. A programming note: the cocktail-club side now runs mainly on Friday and Saturday nights, so plan a weekend visit for the full experience.
11. Harriet’s — 9th floor
1 Hotel West Hollywood, Sunset Strip
Nine floors up in the 1 Hotel’s West Tower, Harriet’s pairs panoramic LA views with glass walls and a prime Sunset Strip address. A strong pick for sunset timing.
12. Dante Beverly Hills — 9th floor
The Maybourne Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills
The legendary New York aperitivo bar’s Beverly Hills outpost sits on the ninth floor of the Maybourne, serving wood-fired Italian dishes and impeccable cocktails with Hollywood Hills views. Open daily.
Honorable mentions we could not rank
Several beloved LA rooftops are genuinely open-air but their exact floors could not be verified from official sources, so they did not make the ranked list: The Roof at the West Hollywood EDITION, Catch LA’s newly relaunched retractable rooftop, Calabra at Santa Monica Proper, Elephante in Santa Monica, and the White Rabbit Sky Lounge at The Valorian. If you can point us to an official floor number for any of them, we will update the ranking.
Also worth knowing: 71Above sits on the 71st floor of the U.S. Bank Tower, which would beat everything here, but it is fully indoors with no open-air dining, so it fails the rooftop test. It remains the highest indoor dining room in the city.
